Content
The PDF (Portable Document Format), a format that guarantees a true-to-original presentation regardless of the platform, is widely used for the publication of research results. In terms of accessibility, this always identical presentation poses a challenge that can only be overcome if the content is accessible independently of the visual layout and can also be operated with assistive technologies. How content is structured in the background can be visualised in PDF documents – for example with the screen reader preview tool.
This raises the following questions. What is an accessible PDF document? What does ‘PDF/UA conformity’ and ‘WCAG conformity’ mean? What needs to be considered for documents in different formats (e.g. Word or PowerPoint) in order to create a PDF that is as accessible as possible? How can you check a PDF document for accessibility and correct errors? The workshop addresses these questions.
