FAIR Data Austria Project Meeting in Graz

At the invitation of Graz University of Technology, the FAIR Data Austria team met for a project meeting in Graz. After a brief review of the successes and results achieved so far, the focus was on continuing the cooperation beyond the FAIR Data project. The format also offered ample time for socialising and was rounded off with a joint dinner in the Old Styrian inn Glöckl Bräu.

Overview of the program

We wanted to find out where the strengths of our collaboration lie, learn from our success stories, and establish a framework for our future collaboration. The topics were spread over two days, with more plenary and larger group discussions on the first day and smaller working groups on specific topics on the second day:

Day 1: Inter-university cooperation after FAIR Data Austria

  • FAIR Data project results
  • Future cooperation
  • Business/Operating models

Day 2: Break-out Sessions

  • maDMPs
  • Data Stewardship
  • FAIR Office Austria
  • Electronic lab notebooks
  • Repository Systems
  • RDM Training
The points discussed and ideas developed were documented on flip charts by the session chairs.

Results

The project meeting was described by the participants as very successful, not least because the F2F format offered sufficient time for an informal exchange on different topics. It became clear that further inter-university cooperation is desired by all sides and is also the basis for a successful optimisation of our tools and services. The development of application-based business/operating models will also be a challenge that the project team will face in the coming years. The exchange of know-how in the break-out sessions and the personal discussions have strengthened the common ground and increased the motivation for future collaboration.
